It was followed by Alphabet (GOOGL-US) with $15.4 billion, up from $15.2 billion in the second quarter.
Meta (META-US) was third with $7.4 billion in stock repurchases. Microsoft (MSFT-US) and Exxon Mobil (XOM-US) ranked fourth and fifth respectively.
In terms of quantity, 384 companies implemented part of their treasury stocks in the third quarter, the same as in the second quarter, and an increase from 371 in the same period last year.
There were 319 companies with at least $5 million in treasury holdings in the third quarter, down from 331 in the second quarter but up from 309 in the third quarter of last year.
For the 12 months ended September 2022, 441 companies executed partial treasury stock plans, up from 424 in the same period in 2021, and total stock repurchases increased to $981.6 billion, up from $742.2 billion in the same period a year ago Total shareholder returns also soared to a record $1.534 trillion, up from $1.241 trillion a year earlier.
