Donald Trump Wants to Bully and Silence Elon Musk

Who will budge first, Donald Trump or Elon Musk?

The battle between the two prolific Twitter users over the Republican nomination for the 2024 presidential election has intensified.

The two have one thing in common as public figures on social media: they like confrontation. Nothing irritates them more than attacking or bullying someone they think is their opponent. They will do whatever it takes to silence the doubters. They use insults, cruel taunts, humiliation, and often a rough tone. Losing is not part of their vocabulary. Social networks are their stage and territory. They check out there.

Their confrontation is inevitable

Trump and Musk have both managed to avoid each other for a long time, but Tesla is getting more and more (TSLA) – Get Tesla Inc report The more influential the CEO is, the more he is willing to engage in politics, the more likely he is to confront Trump.

The tech mogul sparked the fire by revealing that his favorite candidate for the 2024 presidential election is Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis. DeSantis is considered Trump’s biggest threat to the Republican nomination.

While Trump has not officially announced that he will be the nominee, the twice-impeached president has made no secret of his desire for a fresh run.

So it’s no surprise that Trump is now firing the red ball at Musk, one of the few figures who can stand up to him. Musk announced in June that he had voted Republican for the first time in local elections in Texas, where he has lived since 2021, and he is popular among conservatives, especially because of his sympathy for progressive Democrats. Criticized harshly again and again.

As a result, Trump realized that, at the time of writing, Musk had more than 100 million followers on Twitter, posing a threat to his own popularity and influence.

“You know, the other day he said ‘Oh, I never voted Republican.’ I said I don’t know. He told me he voted for me. So he’s another bullshit artist,” Trang Pop at a July 9 rally in Anchorage, Alaska.

The mocking nickname was one of the hallmarks of the former president’s fondness for nicknames for his opponents, and Musk responded strongly, extolling Trump’s political career.

“I don’t hate this guy, but it’s time for Trump to put on his hat and drive into the sunset,” the serial entrepreneur tweeted on July 11. In another tweet, the tech Giants say Trump is too old to run again.

“Trump will be 82 at the end of his term, which is too old to be CEO of anything, let alone the United States of America,” Musk responded. “If DeSantis runs against Biden in 2024, DeSantis will win easily — he doesn’t even need to run,” Musk added.

“Kneel down and beg”

Hours after the serial entrepreneur reacted, Trump put it back on again, this time removing heavy artillery from his repertoire.

“When Elon Musk came to the White House and asked me for help with all his subsidy programs, whether it was electric cars that didn’t drive long enough, self-driving cars that crashed, or rocket ships that had nowhere to go, without those subsidies , he’ll be worthless and tell me he’s a big Trump fan and a Republican, I could have said, ‘Get down on your knees and beg’ and he’ll do it…” Trump on July 12 Day wrote on his own social media, Truth Social, of a photo of him and Musk in the Oval Office.

Like a boxer determined to win by knockout, Trump then seized on a new legal battle between Musk and Twitter management (TWTR) – Get Twitter Inc. report After the tycoon withdrew a proposal to buy the platform for $44 billion.

“Right now Elon should focus on getting himself out of the Twitter mess as he could owe $44 billion for something that might be worthless. Plus, the EV competition is fierce!” Trump wrote.

On top of that, the former president appears to be inviting the SEC to investigate possible violations of financial disclosure rules. Disclosures Musk allegedly violated when he started accumulating Twitter stock. He revealed in an SEC filing in early April that the billionaire holds a 9.1 percent stake in the social network. To the surprise of experts, Musk announced the investment outside the deadline required by regulators. And that has not escaped Trump.

“PS, why was Elon allowed to breach the $15M stock buy barrier on Twitter without any reports? This is a very serious breach! Have fun Elon and @jack, go!” the former said.

So far, Musk’s response to these attacks has been dismissive.

The tension between the two billionaires comes at a time when they are both going through tough times in other ways. For Musk, it’s a legal battle with Twitter. As for Trump, explosive revelations continue about his failed effort to reverse an electoral loss related to the events on Capitol Hill on January 6, 2021. Most recently, a Jan. 6 committee hearing heard that Trump tried to contact a committee witness, possibly to alter their testimony. The incident has been referred to the Department of Justice.
