Governor Whitmer continues to repair roads and bridges, starting next week with projects in Calhoun and Huron counties

In 2022, Governor Whitmer will make largest investment in interstates and bridges in Michigan history

Lansing, Michigan — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced that major road repairs are expected to begin next week in two Michigan counties. Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) projects include work at the I-94/I-69 interchange in Calhoun County and culvert replacement along M-142 in Huron County. These investments are expected to support more than 2,700 jobs, according to economic modelling.

“Across Michigan, we are fixing the damn roads to save motorists time and money. Such investments in Calhoun and Huron counties will support more than 2,700 jobs and help drivers get to work and send their kids to school as well as running errands safely,” said Governor Whitmer“From 2019 to the end of 2022, we will invest 70% more in roads than we have over the past four years. By the end of this year, including two new projects, we will have repaired more than 16,000 miles of roads and more than 900 bridges , supporting nearly 89,000 jobs. Both the Build Back Michigan Plan and the Bipartisan Build Michigan Plan are helping us create safe and reliable infrastructure that will make a huge difference for families and businesses across the state. Funding for the project was provided by Governor Whitmer Rebuild Michigan Rebuild the nation’s roads and bridges that are vital to the nation’s economy and carry the most traffic. The investment strategy is aimed at extending the lifespan and improving the state of the state’s infrastructure.

M-142 detour to replace culvert in Huron County

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will detour M-142 at Parisville Road to accommodate the culvert replacement. The work is part of a $2.9 million investment to resurface more than 4 miles of M-142 Johnston Road to Ruth Road in Huron County. Work included intersection and geometry improvements, concrete curbs and gutters, drainage, signs and pavement markings. The investment is expected to support 37 jobs, according to economic modelling.

The Michigan Build Together program calls for a critical $645 million investment in Michigan’s infrastructure, including $317 million for highway and bridge projects benefiting both state and local programs.
