Guess How Much People Spend on Amazon Prime Day?

Amazon’s (AMZN) – Get Amazon.com Inc. Report Prime Day — which is actually July 12-13 — appears to be going well.

The average spend per order in the first 32 hours was $53.14, up 13% from $47.14 a year earlier, according to market research firm Numerator.

To be sure, it’s unclear whether Amazon’s total sales in the most recent period exceed last year’s total. Molecules did not provide this data. But it does provide many other stats.

· More than 2 out of 5 orders (42%) were priced at $20 or less, and 13% of orders totaled more than $100.

· The average household spends $117, with 16% of households spending more than $200.

· More than half (52%) of households shopping on Prime Day placed two or more orders, and 9% placed five or more orders.

The top five selling items are Amazon’s Fire TV Stick, Amazon’s Echo Dot 4th Gen, Pepsi’s (PEP) – Get PepsiCo Inc. Report Frito-Lay Variety Pack, Amazon Gift Card Recharge and P&G (PG) – Get Procter & Gamble (The) report Dawn Powerwash detergent.

· As for the impact of inflation, which surged 9.1% in the 12 months to June, more than 4 in 5 Prime Day shoppers (83%) said it affected their purchases.

A third (33%) of shoppers said they waited until the Prime Day sale to buy, 27% abandoned a great deal but not a must, 13% decided not to buy something they planned to buy, 6 % bought a smaller size to save money.

The categories that Prime Day buyers report buying the most are home essentials (32% of respondents), health and beauty (28%), consumer electronics (27%), clothing and shoes (23%), and home and garden ( 20%) ).
