herbert diess: Volkswagen’s Herbert Diess to step down as CEO, Oliver Blume to succeed

BERLIN: Volkswagen AG’s Herbert Diess will step down as chief executive, Volkswagen said on Friday, in a major change at the helm of one of Germany’s most prominent global companies.

The move will take effect on September 1 and he will be replaced by Oliver Blume.

Diess’s future at Volkswagen has been questioned several times during his four-year tenure as chief executive, most recently last fall, as he engaged with the company’s strong job committee over his electrification strategy and management style. conflict.

His departure comes as the company seeks to beat Tesla to become the world’s top electric car maker, catch up with software and execute an initial public offering for its Porsche sports car brand.

“After a stressful first half of 2022, many of us are looking forward to a well-deserved summer vacation,” Diess said in a LinkedIn post before announcing his departure.

“My focus will be on customers, brands and products,” Bloom said in a statement.
