Starbucks underperforms expectations in 2022
A report by Placer.ai observed that Starbucks traffic “has seen a significant drop in recent months, as of June, down 6.6% compared to June 2019, and a drop of 6.6% compared to June 2021. 4.1%.”
The coffee industry has outperformed the restaurant industry for most of 2021, but the Omicron variant has slowed this growth, and other issues such as supply chain issues have hampered it further.
In June 2022, coffee visits were lower than fast food restaurants for the first time this year due to high oil prices, inflation and increased Covid-19 cases. In June 2022, monthly visits to Starbucks decreased by 7.8% year-on-year.
As the economy faces more challenges from inflation and recession, Starbucks’ performance is likely to continue to decline. This summer drink menu deal aims to offset that by reinvigorating customer favorites in new ways, giving people new reasons to visit their local Starbucks.
