U.S. telecom operator AT&T (T-US) recently stated that it is mainly focusing on fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) operations. In contrast, Verizon (VZ-US) is more aggressive in its fixed wireless access (FWA) layout, CEO Hans Vestberg said in a statement. In the recent conference call, it was pointed out that 9 of the new broadband users in the third quarter became FWA new users, and it is expected that the growth momentum of FWA users will continue into next year.

Vestberg said that in the third quarter, broadband subscribers increased by 377,000, a quarterly increase of 40%. Among them, FWA benefited from strong consumer and commercial demand. In the third quarter, new users reached 342,000, a quarterly increase of 33%. In total, FWA has now covered There are 40 million households in the United States, and the ultimate goal is to reach 64 million.

Vestberg said that considering the speed of the company’s entry into the market and the current market broadband demand, it is very focused on FWA development. At present, FWA customer satisfaction is also very high, and it is expected that the growth of FWA users will continue until next year.

Vestberg mentioned that the rapid growth of FWA users is closely related to the C-Band construction strategy. The company builds C-Bands from cities and suburbs, which is also where FWA business opportunities emerge. Currently, more than 75% of new users are from cities, In the suburbs, the utilization rate of C-Band users in the third quarter also increased by 170% compared with the previous quarter.

Vestberg pointed out that C-Band has reached 160 million people in the United States in the third quarter, is expected to reach 175 million by the end of the year, and is expected to reach 200 million in the first quarter of next year, covering every market and every state in the United States.

In contrast, AT&T is more negative about FWA layout. AT&T CEO John Stankey is optimistic about the development of optical fiber in the conference call, but he admits that he will be more negative about FWA layout. He said that the company will launch FWA products, but it is not the primary goal.
