That means the two drove north about two hours to Tennessee after disappearing from a county jail in Florence, Alabama, Lauderdale County Sheriff Rick Singleton said at a news conference Friday. Williamson County, State.
But authorities know little about what happened after that.
“We now know where the cars are, we know where they went,” the sheriff said. “We are trying to search the area for any witnesses and also trying to research to see if there was any theft in the area during that time. Vehicle report.”
Authorities believe the vehicle may have had a mechanical problem that caused the sudden stop in the area. But the sheriff said investigators don’t yet know if the couple stole another car or hitchhiked with someone else, and where they may have gone.
“We’re kind of back to square one,” he said. “After Friday afternoon, when they abandoned that car, which direction they were going from there, we don’t know.”
Vicky White, 56, and Casey White, 38, have now been missing for more than a week. Officials say the two may have been in a relationship, but not by blood.
Correctional officers using aliases
Vicky White, assistant director of the Lauderdale County Department of Corrections, removed Kathy White from the county jail on Friday morning, saying she was taking him for a mental health evaluation. She said she would go to the doctor after sending the prisoner away because she was not feeling well.
The two have not seen each other since then. The patrol car taken from the prison by officers and inmates was found abandoned in the shopping centre parking lot. Authorities believe the couple left the parking lot in another vehicle: a 2007 Ford SUV Vicky White purchased the night before and parked there, Singleton previously said.
She now has a valid arrest warrant for allegedly allowing or assisting a first-degree escape. She is no longer employed by the sheriff’s office, the sheriff’s office said, adding that while Friday was her last day on the job, her documents were never finalized. Her prison keys, radio and handcuffs were found inside an abandoned SUV.
Investigators believe Vicky White had a large sum of money when the couple went missing, Singleton said Friday, adding that authorities were working to find more details.
“Her knowledge of the corrections and her knowledge of the procedures we use at the sheriff’s office has definitely worked in her favor. I think it was a well-thought-out plan,” Singleton said at a news conference Friday.
“Her knowledge left us… overwhelmed,” the sheriff added. “It’s a well-thought-out plan.”
The sheriff added that Vicky White also used a pseudonym, including to buy the vehicle. “I’m assuming she may have dropped those aliases and may now have some new identities.”

The U.S. Marshals Service said the pair should be considered dangerous and may have been armed with weapons including AR-15 rifles, pistols and shotguns.
The agency said Kathy White threatened his ex-girlfriend and her sister in 2015 that if he went out, “he would kill them and he wanted the police to kill him.” potential targets” and take steps to protect them.
The service also posted several photos of Kathy White and his tattoos, as well as photo renderings of Vicky White, who was blond with darker, shorter hair when she disappeared.
The agency provides up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest of a prisoner and up to $5,000 for the officer.
On Friday, Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey announced an additional $5,000 each for information leading to the arrests of Vicky White and Casey White.
Asked on Friday what he would say to Vicky White if she could hear him, the sheriff said: “You know we’ll find you. Hopefully we’ll find you safe.”
“If you are safe now and are still safe, please leave as much as possible and turn yourself in to local authorities, wherever you are,” Singleton said.
